Teen Anglers ready to fish Stockon

Stockton, Mo.—The timing could be perfect for bass fishing when the final qualifying tournament of the Teen Anglers circuit arrives May 22 at Stockton Lake.

Jimmy Davis of Willard notes largemouth bass should be shallow during the tournament for high school and middle school anglers. “We are still seeing a few spawners and I think there will be another wave when it gets close to the full moon (May 21) so the second wave of the spawn should come on then,” Davis said.

The tournament veteran reports the water temperature is ranging from 68 to 73 degrees and the lake level is “a little high” with some shoreline bushes in the water

“Bass fishing has been pretty good,” Davis said. “Topwater should be a real strong suit for everybody. Fishing shallow around the edges of the bushes and stuff should produce a lot of fish whether they are throwing a shaky head or flipping some sort of bait. They are probably going to catch some fish out on the points as well.“

Republic High School’s Gerald Snook and Josh Perkins won last year’s Teen Anglers tournament at Stockton with a five-fish limit weighing 14.13 pounds and earned the first big bass award with a 6.49-pound largemouth. They caught all of their fish during the April event on shaky heads with Strike King Zeroes.

Teen Anglers, Inc. was created last year as a circuit for high school fishing clubs to compete in three qualifying bass tournaments with a championship in June. The circuit was originally open to Missouri high school students but membership has been expanded to middle and high school students from Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Kansas. The next Teen Angler event will be the circuit’s championship set for June 18 and 19 at a site to be announced after the Stockton tournament.
